This outstanding victory, which is the indicator of national unity and solidarity, indomitable will and strong leadership, has been etched in the history of the Turkish state forever."
President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan sent a letter to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the occasion of the 6thanniversary of FETO's treacherous coup attempt. Aliyev said in his letter, which he began with the words "My dear brother," that he commemorates the cherished memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to prevent the coup attempt with profound respect and compassion.
Ilham Aliyev noted that six years ago, the Turkish people displayed true bravery and heroism by upholding the state and democracy, defending the independence and sovereignty of their country, and once again demonstrating to the rest of the world their power and greatness.
Underlining that Democracy and National Unity Day represents the heroic Turkish people's devotion to their homeland, state and democratic traditions, Aliyev said, "The unwavering faith and confidence of the people in you, as well as their strong union around you, played a decisive role in preventing treason against the Turkish state and allowing your country to pass this challenging test. This outstanding victory, which is the indicator of national unity and solidarity, indomitable will and strong leadership, has been etched in the history of the Turkish state forever."
Stating that the Azerbaijani people and state stood by brotherly Türkiye from the beginning of the coup attempt and strongly condemned this treacherous attempt, Aliyev made the following statements in his message:
"In line with the principle of 'one nation, two states,' our peoples, who support each other in good and bad times, demonstrate their brotherhood by supporting each other in tough times. We will stand by Türkiye in all matters in the future too.
There are no relations in the world today that can compare to those between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, which are based on the will of our peoples and linked by indissoluble bonds and based on friendship and fraternity. I am confident that we will keep moving forward with determination to achieve the alliance objectives we set in the Shusha Declaration."
