President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the Çerkezköy-Kapıkule High-Speed Railway Line Opening Ceremony in Kırklareli.
“Our transportation investments are at the top of the areas in which we have literally taken Türkiye to an upper league in the past 24 years. The current value of the investments we have made in transportation during our governments has risen to $355 billion, with railway lines’ share nearing $80 billion. We have increased our total railway network to 13,919 kilometers. We have extended our electrified railway length from 2,122 kilometers to 7,274 kilometers, amounting to a 243 percent rise, and our signaled railway line length from 2,505 kilometers to 8,419 kilometers, equal to a 236 percent rise. It is yet again us who have introduced the comfort of high-speed train in our country. We have built, from scratch, a 2,251-km-long high-speed train line across our country. Currently, 51 percent of our population benefit from our high-speed train services. Once the construction of the Çerkezköy-Kapıkule railway line is completed, the length of our high-speed train lines will expand to 2,604 kilometers, with the number of our cities with a direct access to high-speed train reaching 14, which we aim to increase to 27 by the end of 2028. We continue our railway investments in every corner of Türkiye. Currently, 4,858 kilometers of railway lines are under construction. Our objective for 2053 is to extend our railway line length to 28,590 kilometers,” President Erdoğan said.
