Addressing a meeting with representatives of the Turkish-American business community in New York, President Erdoğan said: “As we approach the 100th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, our strategic cooperation with the U.S. is developing in all areas.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, met with representatives of the Turkish-American business community.
President Erdoğan delivered a speech at the meeting.
Stressing that the economic programme currently underway in Türkiye has four main components, which are price stability, fiscal discipline, sustainable external balance and structural transformation, President Erdoğan stated that substantial progress has been made regarding all of these four principles over the last year despite the wars that broke out in the region.
Voicing his belief that 2027 will be a stronger year in terms of disinflation, President Erdoğan drew attention to the highly positive situation in fiscal discipline, and added that structural transformation has been placed at the center of the programme since it is efficiency that actually matters.
Noting that as Türkiye and the U.S. approach the 100th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, Türkiye’s strategic cooperation with the U.S. is developing in all areas, President Erdoğan said: “We wish to reflect the harmony we have achieved in our political relations in our economic and trade ties as well. In fact, we possess very significant potential in this regard. Through our joint efforts, we have recently concluded important agreements in energy, aviation and other critical sectors. Currently, the U.S. is our top LNG supplier, making us chief among the countries in Europe that prefers American resources. We aim to expand this cooperation to the entire energy field, including nuclear. On the other hand, it wouldn’t be right to analyze our economic ties with the U.S. only through our trade figures. In the current era when the global economic order is being redesigned, I am of the opinion that there is a need for an economic cooperation model with Türkiye.”
Stressing that he believes five grand transformations will gain speed in the region with the termination of the conflicts, President Erdoğan said that first of them will be the repositioning of supply chains, with companies looking for not only the cheapest but also the safest places. “Türkiye, with its strong industrial infrastructure that is connected to a free trade network including the Customs Union with the European Union, is a natural destination of this quest.”
President Erdoğan continued his remarks as follows: “Second, trade routes are being redrawn. Türkiye constitutes the safest corridor of uninterrupted energy flow from Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan all the way to TANAP. Third, trade corridors are changing. The Middle Corridor, which links Asia to Europe, and the Development Road, which connects the Gulf to Europe, intersect in Türkiye. Fourth, an era of reconstruction is about to begin. Roads, ports, power plants, houses and factories will be rebuilt. With its experience in doing business in difficult geographies, the Turkish construction sector is the most prepared player of this process. The fifth is defense and high technology. Our defense industry, which manufactures by NATO standards, has acquired the capacity to contribute to our allies’ supply security. We implemented in April one of the world’s most competitive investment packages to make sure our country benefits from such transformation opportunities. Our foreign missions, particularly our investment and finance offices in Washington and New York, are always ready to support you.”
