Delivering remarks on the earthquake that hit Kahramanmaraş and its neighboring provinces, President Erdoğan said: “Our state has taken action with all its institutions starting from the moment of the earthquake, and the governorates have immediately mobilized all their means in their own provinces.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was briefed on the earthquake that hit Kahramanmaraş and its neighboring provinces by the officials at the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
“Our state has taken action with all its institutions starting from the moment of the earthquake, and the governorates have immediately mobilized all their means in their own provinces,” President Erdoğan said in a brief press statement, adding that 10 more governors had been assigned to work with the governors in the 10 provinces hit by the earthquake, and that such institutions as AFAD, Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) and the Turkish Armed Forces had been stationed in the area.
Underscoring that 912 citizens had thus far lost their lives and 5,385 citizens had been injured, President Erdoğan stated that the number of the people saved from the wreckage had reached 1,470.
Drawing attention to the importance of transportation and communication during those times, President Erdoğan stressed that people and organization that would go to the area for help must act in coordination with AFAD, and continued as follows: “Talks for international aids have started as well. In addition to NATO and the European Union, 45 more countries’ offer for help have been received. I wish Allah’s mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives in this big disaster, and a speedy recovery to the injured.”
