Regarding the invitation extended to Ferhat Abdi Şahin, code named Mazlum Kobani by some members of the US Congress to the country, Director of Communications Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun stated that, “Our NATO ally’s efforts to glorify a terror leader will be etched in our memory for many years. The American support for this terror organization will be a dark stain in its history and will be taught as a textbook example of a foreign policy fiasco.”
Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun stated the following in the statement he shared from his twitter account:
“Ferhat Abdi Şahin (code name Mazloum Kobani) is a terrorist sought by an Interpol red bulletin. Not only that, he is, in fact, the ultimate proof of the superficial distinction being drawn between the PKK and the YPG. Those who invited Ferhat Abdi Şahin are not only damaging the US-Turkey relations but also potentially committing a crime under US law. Turkish public will never forget those who try to legitimize Sahin by inviting him to Washington. Our NATO ally’s efforts to glorify a terror leader will be etched in our memory for many years. We will fight terror no matter who is supporting it. The fight against terror cannot succeed until the day a terrorist is not considered someone else’s hero. The American support for this terror organization will be a dark stain in its history and will be taught as a textbook example of a foreign policy fiasco. US Congress should consider inviting and apologizing to the families of victims of PKK terror instead of inviting Ferhat Abdi Şahin.”
