“Occupation of Palestinian lands will never be legitimized”

Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun said on Twitter that Turkey always stood by the Palestinians while supporting a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on the two-state solution and that they opposed any measure that violates international law and prevents a fair and just solution.

"Israeli settlement activity in Palestine is against international law and conscious of humanity regardless of US policy. Pushing Palestinians out of their lands is an egregious violation of international norms and occupation of Palestinian lands will never be legitimized." Altun noted.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced earlier that the U.S. would no longer consider Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank illegal.

Noting that the administration of Donald Trump changed the Barack Obama administration’s policy on Jewish settlements in the West Bank, Pompeo said the decades of U.S. approach to developments in the West Bank failed to advance peace.

Pompeo reminded that while the administration of the 39th U.S. President Jimmy Carter in 1978 defended that Israel’s civilian settlement activities were not consistent with international law, the administration of the 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan in 1981 disagreed with that conclusion.
