Statement by National Security Council

The National Security Council (NCS) meeting, presided over by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has concluded.

A statement was issued following the three-hour and forty-minute meeting at the Presidential Complex.

According to the statement, political, military, and economic developments significant for national security in 2022 were evaluated in all aspects during the meeting, along with potential issues to be faced in 2023, efforts to be undertaken, and measures to be implemented within this framework.

It was noted that the Council was informed about the operations conducted with determination, resolve, and success against all types of threats and dangers against national security, unity and solidarity, and survival, particularly those posed by the terrorist organisations PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and DAESH, and that further steps would be taken if necessary, and that the will and preparations required for this are complete.

At the meeting, it was stated that the terrorist organisations PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG and their supporters are the biggest obstacle to the Syrian people's peace, tranquilly, and prosperity, and that eliminating terrorist organisations and reaching an inclusive and holistic solution based on Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty would pave the way to lasting peace.

The statement read "It was stated that Greece's provocative actions, rhetoric, and armament efforts would provide no benefit other than increasing tension in our region, and it was strongly emphasised that Türkiye would not allow any fait accompli targeting its national security and interests.”

The statement reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for NATO's open-door policy and added:

“On the other hand, it has been emphasised that states willing to join NATO must act in accordance with the law and spirit of the alliance, and it is imperative that they fulfil their obligations arising from the memorandum of understanding regarding the fight against terrorist organisations, particularly the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG and FETO, with concrete steps as soon as possible.

The heinous attacks, which are a manifestation of anti-Islamic racism and target the sacred values of billions of people, were strongly condemned; It was reminded that those who undermine values such as freedom of religion, conscience, and thought, as well as those who encourage and protect actions that cannot be explained by democracy and freedom of expression, are partners in hate crime that violates human rights.”
