The National Security Council convened on December 5, 2024, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
During the meeting;
1. The Council has been briefed on the operations that have been carried out with determination, resolve, and success at home and abroad against all types of threats and dangers to our national unity and solidarity, as well as our survival, including the terrorist organisations PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and DAESH, along with recent international developments.
2. The significance of adhering to international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions to put an end to Israel's boundless massacres and aggression was underscored with the hope that the ceasefire in Lebanon would be permanent; it was also reiterated that Türkiye would maintain its stance for a fair and lasting solution to the issue of Palestine.
3. It was stated that the latest developments in Syria once again highlighted the importance of taking necessary measures to protect the security of the civilian population and their property and that the regime should reconcile with its own people and the legitimate opposition; that our country consistently supported the protection of Syria's territorial integrity and unity and was ready to contribute all necessary resources to this end; and that terrorist organisations seeking to exploit the climate of instability would not be tolerated, and all threats to our national security and our people would be eliminated.
4. The latest situation regarding the war in Ukraine was discussed, and the possible impact of international developments on the course of the conflict was evaluated; the importance of preventing the escalation of the war, achieving an immediate ceasefire, and establishing a just peace was highlighted.
5. Our expectation and hope that the positive developments in the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia would lead to a peace treaty were emphasised; it was also noted that a lasting peace would be in the interest of all actors in our region.
