NSC convenes at the Presidential Complex

The National Security Council convened on January 22, 2025, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

During the meeting;

1. The National Security Policy Document (MGSB), which is updated every five years and urgently when necessary, was renewed based on the assessment of current and anticipated developments in Türkiye, the region, and the world, and approved by the Council.

It was decided that MGSB-2020 will be repealed and MGSB-2025 will come into effect.

2. The political, military, economic, and social developments that took place in 2024 and that are important for our national security were assessed; the potential issues that may arise in 2025 and the planned activities and the necessary measures to be taken within this framework were discussed.

3. The Council was briefed on the determined, resolute, and successful operations conducted at home and abroad against all types of threats and dangers to our national unity and solidarity, as well as our survival, particularly the terrorist organisations PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and DAESH, along with recent international developments.

4. It was reaffirmed that full support will be given to the new Syrian administration in its efforts to ensure the state's sovereignty, unitary structure, territorial integrity, and political unity and guarantee the fundamental rights and freedoms of all ethnic, religious, and sectarian groups in the country, as well as to Syria’s reconstruction and the Syrian people to achieve peace and prosperity.

5. It was reiterated that the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG will not be allowed to exploit the current situation and any potential developments in Syria, and it was emphasised that all terrorist organisations that are hostile to the friendly and brotherly peoples of our region will be eliminated under all circumstances.

6. It was underlined that the ceasefire in Gaza should be permanent and serve as a foundation for a just settlement of the Palestinian issue, and the importance of unhindered, uninterrupted, and rapid delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza was underscored.

Additionally, it was noted that Israel’s aggressive actions, which violate international law and extend into Syrian territory, pose a barrier to efforts aimed at ensuring regional stability.

7. It was indicated that Türkiye will increase its efforts to resolve disputes before they escalate into conflicts and to peacefully resolve ongoing conflicts in a variety of regions, particularly Africa, the Middle East, and the Balkans, and it will continue to make its full contribution to the establishment of global peace and stability.

Respectfully submitted to the public's attention.
