National Security Council Declaration dated July 25, 2024

National Security Council Declaration dated July 25, 2024

The National Security Council convened on July 25, 2024, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

During the meeting;

1. The Council was briefed on the operations that have been carried out with determination, resolve, and success at home and abroad against all types of threats and dangers to our national unity and solidarity, as well as our survival, including the terrorist organisations PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETO, and DAESH and recent international developments.

2. The stage reached in the fight against FETO, the perpetrator of the July 15 betrayal, and the steps to be taken in the coming period were evaluated; the unwavering determination to completely destroy the terrorist organisation, which has resorted to all kinds of heinous acts under the guidance of hostile foci to Türkiye and attempted to justify itself under the guise of victimhood, was emphasised.

3. It was stated that our increased efforts in the fight against terrorism will contribute to the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and prosperity of our neighbours, Iraq and Syria, by establishing a solid foundation for the resolution of common security issues through the sincere cooperation of the region's countries.

4. It was emphasised that in resolving the issues, support for reaching a real social consensus in Syria encompassing all parties would continue and that attempts to sow discord and provocations aimed at the two peoples' long-lasting friendship would not be tolerated. It was also underlined that liberating Syrian territory from separatist terrorism would primarily guarantee Syria's interests and survival.

5. It was stated that the Israeli Administration, which clearly declared that it does not recognise any rule of law or humanitarian values with the massacres it has committed despite the increasing response of the international community, must be stopped without delay. If it is not stopped, it was once again noted that a spiral of violence which could first affect the nearby areas and, eventually, the entire region may be set off.

6. It was noted that the peace, tranquillity, and secure environment that have prevailed throughout the island for half a century thanks to the Cyprus Peace Operation conducted by Türkiye under international agreements and in its capacity as a guarantor country have indisputably affirmed the legitimacy and success of the operation before history.

It was emphasised that our determined stance towards the resolution of the Cyprus issue, which is our national cause, on the basis of a two-state solution in accordance with the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people and the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as an equal member of the international community will be maintained.

7. It was stated that our constructive approach, which prioritises dialogue on the issues in the Aegean and Mediterranean, will not be misused and that unwavering practices to defend our rights, concerns, and interests will be maintained.

8. The developments regarding the war in Ukraine and recent diplomatic efforts were discussed, and it was noted that there is a need to intensify sincere multilateral efforts to establish a just and lasting peace before the war escalates further and spreads to the region.

9. The relations developed with a long-term approach between Türkiye and African countries, particularly Somalia, Libya, Sudan, and Niger, were evaluated, and it was noted that Türkiye would continue to contribute to the peace and prosperity of the brotherly African peoples by fulfilling the requirements of its responsibility for the establishment of trust and stability.

Respectfully submitted to the public's attention.
