National and international media members visit TOKİ houses built after earthquake in Kahramanmaraş

A visit to the earthquake zone in Kahramanmaraş was coordinated by the Directorate of Communications, which included 16 members of the national and international press.

Governor Mükerrem Ünlüer briefed 16 members of the press, 9 from Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Greece, the Netherlands, the USA and Russia, and 7 from Türkiye, at the Disaster Coordination Centre.

Recalling that the city and the region experienced an enormous disaster a year prior, Ünlüer said, "25 per cent of the current building stock is no longer fit for use." Ünlüer noted that Azerbaijan Boulevard and Trabzon Street adjacent to it were the most damaged and valuable parts of the city and said,

"We are not changing anything here; everything is transforming in its place. We are only constructing the building stock in light of science and in accordance with the ground conditions. We are reducing the number of floors and opting for 4-5 floors instead of 8–10 floors."

Ünlüer concluded his remarks as follows:

"Our aim is to revive the city centres; we don't plan to build houses on the outskirts and relocate the owners."

The programme, during which AFAD Provincial Director Tayfun Temur made a presentation regarding the efforts, concluded with Governor Ünlüer addressing journalists' questions.

Members of the press then visited the TOKİ houses completed in Dulkadiroğlu district Ferhuş Neighbourhood.

Journalists visited Koç Umutkent container city, where they toured the services provided to earthquake victims and interviewed citizens.
