A visit to the earthquake zone in Malatya was coordinated by the Directorate of Communications, which included 45 members of the national and international press.
Governor of Malatya Ersin Yazıcı briefed 45 press members, 33 foreign and 12 Turkish, at the Public Library.
Noting that 6,643 buildings were destroyed and 35,907 buildings were severely damaged during the earthquakes and that 85 per cent of the damaged buildings were demolished, Yazıcı stated that 117,232 earthquake victims were housed in 32,295 containers across 69 container cities.
Yazıcı noted that it is planned to produce 34 thousand independent buildings, including 23 thousand housing units and 11 thousand commercial buildings in the central residential areas of Malatya, and said that 5,140 of the 14,636 housing units for which tenders were made are ready to be distributed to the rightful owners.
Members of the press then toured the TOKİ residences and show flat in İkizce.
Jan Marot, a journalist from Austria, said that he observed significant construction and ongoing work in the region.
Marot said that it was good to see Turkish people making an effort to build the houses in time and added, "When we asked the engineer, he mentioned that all the workers were Turkish. And that left a strong impression on me. Hence, it is not easy to find such an example on a global scale at this time. People lost their families, children, and friends due to the earthquake, so it sounds good that they will be residing in these houses, which have a very modern appearance. We had the opportunity to inspect the show flat, and we were very impressed."
