Minister of State Al-Lafi of Libya attends International Strategic Communication Summit

Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs of Libya Walid Ammar Al-Lafi underscored the significance of strategic communication, saying, "Irrespective of the extent to which disinformation is spread, the truth remains the strongest force, and it will ultimately prevail."

Held by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, the International Strategic Communication Summit (Stratcom Summit '23) features the theme "Global Response to Hybrid Threats: Stability, Security, Solidarity."

As a speaker at the summit, Al-Lafi cited the transition from the information age to the age of communication, stating, "To counter disinformation and prevent encounters with fake news, we must prioritise communication."

"Communication has played a significant role in the war in Gaza," Al-Lafi stated, drawing attention to the high number of casualties during the conflict in Gaza.

Al-Lafi emphasised the significance of the members of the press reporting on the situation in Gaza, stating, "Journalists proved us the role of communication."

Stating that the majority of young people follow political news on social media, Al-Lafi said that they can act more freely on these platforms.

Al-Lafi noted that the truth and lies can be revealed on social media platforms and that people can influence each other through communication, which shows the power of the age of communication.

Referring to communication as a strategic concept in conflicts, Al-Lafi stated that it is necessary to communicate about crises.

Al-Lafi emphasised the need for new terms related to communication and the need for public institutions to develop certain patterns in strategic planning.

Underlining the importance of adhering to local and moral values, Al-Lafi also touched upon the importance of being vigilant about disinformation.

Al-Lafi drew attention to the events organised by his country on communication and said that the public showed interest in them.

Noting that communication and politics should be intertwined, Al-Lafi said, "Irrespective of the extent to which disinformation is spread, the truth remains the strongest force, and it will ultimately prevail."
