I celebrate the 955th anniversary of the Victory of Manzikert, which opened the gates of Anatolia to our august nation.
The determination that makes us strong today, reinforces our resolve to confront every challenge that comes our way and enables us to stand as one despite our differences is the present-day reflection of the resolve demonstrated in 1071 and the consciousness that prevailed on that day.
For centuries, the spirit of Manzikert has always been a source of inspiration to our august nation.
The noble virtues of love, respect, tolerance and solidarity inherited from our forebears are the assurance that our august nation will always overcome every challenge in unity and solidarity.
Today, drawing inspiration from the Victory of Manzikert, we, as a state and nation, continue our efforts to build a great, strong and prosperous future.
With these thoughts, on the 955th anniversary of the Victory of Manzikert, I commemorate the great commander Sultan Alparslan and our cherished martyrs with mercy and gratitude, and extend my heartfelt greetings to all our citizens.”
Message by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the Victory Week of 26 August:
"We celebrate the final week of August as Victory Week, marking the Victory of Manzikert and the Great Offensive’s victorious conclusion.
The glorious march begun by our august nation at Manzikert in 1071, following the successes achieved despite all the challenges encountered, was crowned with the establishment of our Republic.
This struggle, imbued with resolve, gave our august nation the strength to undertake major initiatives on the path to a bright future; after the proclamation of the Republic, significant steps were taken toward rapid progress and development.
The sacrifices made by our forebears to make these lands our homeland, together with our nation’s resolve in struggle that has set an example to the entire world, are the greatest guarantee of our Republic. This resolve now lives on in our Republic, which is advancing and growing with each passing day towards the goal of the Century of Türkiye.
On the occasion of Victory Week, I commemorate, first and foremost, Sultan Alparslan and Gazi Mustafa Kemal, as well as all our martyrs, with respect and mercy, and remember our veterans with gratitude; I extend my most heartfelt greetings to all members of the Turkish Armed Forces and our citizens.
