Message by President Erdoğan on the “Victory Week”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan released a message on the Victory Week of 26 August.

In his message President Erdoğan stated:

"We once again observe the Victory Week of August 26—one of the turning points of our history—with the deepest sense of honour, pride, and excitement. Victory Week stands as one of the foremost symbols of our nation’s determined struggle, sacrifice and devotion to our homeland on the path to independence.

This blessed week is a symbol of our glorious history stretching from Manzikert to the Great Offensive. While the Victory of Manzikert, which opened the gates of Anatolia, embodied our determination to make these lands our eternal homeland, the Great Offensive, launched on 26 August 1922, proclaimed to the entire world how our nation, sparing no sacrifice in the cause of independence, defended its freedom with its very blood and life.

Victory Week reminds us not only of the glorious memories of our past but also of the responsibilities we bear for the future. Today, with the same faith and determination, we must advance into the future in unity and solidarity and, in the Century of Türkiye, further strengthen our Republic in every sphere.

Drawing strength and inspiration from our history, our goal in the Century of Türkiye is to build a stronger, more prosperous, fairer and more powerful Türkiye. Victory Week will ever remain a source of strength and inspiration for us on the path towards these goals.

On the occasion of Victory Week, I commemorate with respect and mercy all our martyrs, first and foremost Sultan Alp Arslan and Ghazi Mustafa Kemal, and I remember our veterans with gratitude, while extending my most heartfelt greetings to all our citizens."
