President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan presented Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson of Sweden with a letter from the Swedish ambassador, stating that the King of Sweden was extremely pleased with the Ottoman Empire's financial assistance to Sweden and its mediation in resolving existing disputes with Russia.
President Erdoğan met with Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson of Sweden, who is in Türkiye on an official visit, at the Presidential Complex.
In honour of the visit, Prime Minister Kristersson of Sweden presented President Erdoğan with a copy of an alliance agreement signed in 1739 between Sweden and the Ottoman Empire.
Ulf Kristersson said, "At the time, a defence agreement was signed between our countries. In fact, I believe it is an 'irony of history' that article 5 of this treaty also addresses this particular issue."

President Erdoğan indicated that he had a pleasant surprise and presented a letter from the Swedish ambassador, stating that the King of Sweden was extremely pleased with the Ottoman Empire's financial assistance to Sweden and its mediation in resolving existing disputes with Russia.
President Erdoğan also presented Kristersson with the decree by the Qadi of Thessaloniki that the wheat, which was ordered to be transferred to Sweden owing to the goodwill between the two countries, had been loaded onto ships from the Thessaloniki harbour and sent. President Erdoğan said, "At the time, we also played a part in mediation. We acted as mediators back then, just as we do now for grain shipment."
In response to Kristersson's statement, "History is repeating itself," President Erdoğan said, "It would not, if lessons were to be learned," to which Kristersson replied, "Very much agreed".
