Letter from President Aliyev to President Erdoğan on July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day

On the 8th anniversary of FETO's treacherous coup attempt, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan penned a letter to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In his letter, President Aliyev expressed his profound respect and reverence for the cherished memory of all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives to thwart the attempted coup.

Aliyev underscored that the heinous coup attempt was an attack on brotherly Türkiye's national interests, democratic foundations, and the rule of law. He also noted that the wise and brave people of Türkiye once again wrote a heroic epic by resolutely fighting for their homeland, statehood, and democracy, making their chests a shield.

"July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day will always live on and be remembered with even greater pride through the ages as a symbol of the resilient Turkish people's solidarity, struggle, and national unity," President Aliyev stated.

Aliyev noted that President Erdoğan played a special role in repelling the coup attempt, and the Turkish people rallied tightly around him to defend their state and freedom, and said, "From the very first moments, the Azerbaijani people and state strongly condemned this betrayal and, as always, stood by the brotherly Turkish state and people. This was our duty of brotherhood and loyalty to share our joys and sorrows with Türkiye."

President Aliyev stated that Türkiye and Azerbaijan will continue their joint efforts to raise their relations to even greater heights.
