Leading actors of strategic communication to meet in Istanbul

The International Strategic Communication Summit (Stratcom Summit '23), organised for the third time this year by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, will be held in Istanbul on November 24–25.

This year, the Summit will be organised at the Hilton Bomonti Istanbul Hotel under the theme "Global Response to Hybrid Threats: Stability, Security, Solidarity", and President Erdoğan will address the Summit via video message.

The Summit will begin with the opening remarks by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, and the Presidency's Director of Communications, Fahrettin Altun. Melissa Fleming, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications at the United Nations, will also participate via video message.

The Summit will host prominent figures such as Walid Ammar Ellafi, Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs, Government of National Unity, Libya; Ziad Makary, Minister of Information of Lebanon; Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to the President Ambassador Akif Çağatay Kılıç; and Emeritus Prof. Nancy Snow from California State University.

Sixty national and international experts from the public and private sectors, the media, academia, think tanks and non-governmental organisations from nearly 30 countries are scheduled to deliver speeches at the event.

Nearly 3 thousand local and foreign participants are expected to attend the Summit, which will consist of 9 panels, 9 separate talks (Stratcom Talks) and 3 video messages.

The Summit will last two days and address many issues, from countering hybrid threats to digital public communication, from new technologies to artificial intelligence, from humanitarian crises to international resilience building.

Among the topics to be discussed at the Summit will be global cooperation in the fight against disinformation, as well as Türkiye's fight against disinformation.

On the first day of the Summit, the concept of hybrid threats will be discussed in the panel "Hybrid Threats in the Age of Uncertainty".

Ways to increase resilience against hybrid threats will be discussed in the panels "Building International Resilience", "Public Communication in the Digital Age", and "Building Resilient Brands Countering Global Threats".

Speakers who are experts in their fields will give presentations on "The Role of Official Communication Tools in Countering Disinformation" and "Effective Diplomacy in Countering Hybrid Threats."

On the second day of the Summit, different aspects of hybrid threats will be discussed in the panel "New Fronts to Hybrid Threats, Communicative Complexities in Hybrid Crises".

New threats and methods of struggle from the perspective of the media will be discussed in the panel " Reality Through the Lens of Truth: Unveiling Humanitarian Crises and Conflicts."  The panel  ' New Conflict Areas, Crisis and Risks at 21st Century' will address crisis communication, while the panel 'New Dilemmas of Strategic Communications: Information Security and Transparency' will shed light on the fight against disinformation.

On the second day of the Summit, leadership, artificial intelligence, and technology will be among the topics of discussion.

Participants will be able to visit the stands of various organisations at the conference centre, including the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, TRT, Press Advertisement Agency, Anadolu Agency, and Turkish Airlines. They will also have the chance to visit the technological and artificial intelligence stations for a unique experience.

The event will include the Cyber Security Workshop, where the latest technological developments will be discussed, and the metaverse platform of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications will also be exhibited.

The International Strategic Communication Summit is a global centre of interaction and a leading platform in the field of strategic communication, and it aims to address new developments by bringing together national and international actors within the strategic communication ecosystem in the fight against hybrid threats.
