Our Directorate and the Turkish-American National Steering Committee (TASC) organised a commemoration ceremony for July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day in New York's famous Times Square.
The message "July 15 Victory of Democracy" was displayed throughout the day on Times Square's digital board, which was adorned with Turkish flags.
The programme began with a minute of silence for those who were martyred during the July 15 coup attempt, followed by the Turkish National Anthem, the Independence March.
In addition to the exhibition of 253 pairs of shoes representing the martyrs of July 15, a concert was also held in the area.
"All activities of FETO must be prevented"
Giving a speech there, Reyhan Özgür, Türkiye's Consul General to New York, said that she respectfully commemorated the July 15 martyrs who laid down their lives for their country during the coup attempt of FETO.
Explaining that FETO targeted innocent civilians, the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and the Presidency, Özgür said, "Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Turkish people opposed the coup attempt, and the attempt was thwarted by the will of the people."
Emphasising that FETO poses a threat to all countries in which it operates, Özgür said, "We call on all countries, particularly the USA, to prevent FETO's activities."
As part of the programme, a plane with a giant banner hanging on its tail that read, "The perpetrator of the deaths of 253 civilians on July 15, 2016, lives far closer than you realise," flew over New York skies.
