JOINT STATEMENT ON THE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKIYE AND THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA

“A Legacy of Brotherhood, A Vision For The Future”

At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye, His Excellency Mr. Lee Jae Myung, President of the Republic of Korea, paid a State Visit to Türkiye on 24-25 November 2025.

The two sides held comprehensive discussions in a warm and friendly atmosphere.  They reviewed the close and historic ties between their nations, rooted in the brotherhood forged during the Korean War.

The two sides reaffirmed their common desire to further deepen their strategic partnership on the basis of mutual respect, trust, and long-standing friendship, as the two nations approach the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027.

Political Cooperation

The two sides noted with satisfaction the steady development of relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties and underlined their shared commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity in Asia, Europe and beyond.  They recognized the importance of dialogue and consultation at all levels, and expressed their intention to continue maintaining regular political contacts and high-level visits.

Both sides reiterated their readiness to work together within multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations, G20, OECD, and MIKTA, in promoting sustainable development, global health, and effective responses to common challenges.

Economic and Industrial Cooperation

The two sides welcomed the progress achieved under the Türkiye-Korea Free Trade Agreement and emphasized the importance of ensuring that the agreement continues to contribute to a  mutually complementary trade structure and shared prosperity.

The two sides agreed to develop cooperation in the context of agriculture, fisheries, and forestry within the framework of sustainable development goals.  

Both sides acknowledged the complementary nature of the two economies and encouraged continued cooperation in industry, manufacturing, infrastructure development and energy, guided by market principles and mutual benefit.  They expressed their satisfaction with ongoing collaboration between public institutions and private sectors, and underlined the importance of transparency and fair competition in all joint activities.

Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation

Recognizing the pivotal role of the emerging technologies, including AI and digitalization, in the economic and security domain, both sides expressed their willingness to enhance cooperation in science, technology and innovation.  

Both sides are committed to encourage joint efforts to promote  R&D ecosystem, including the establishment of common platforms for innovation, and facilitate collaboration.

Defence Industry Relations

Both sides agreed to promote defence industry cooperation, to cultivate new partnerships and to further deepen the bilateral ties through mutually beneficial projects, in line with their national legislation and the international law.

Energy, Environment and Sustainable Growth

The two sides emphasized the shared responsibility to address climate change and to promote sustainable growth in accordance with the Paris Agreement and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The two sides reaffirmed the importance of cooperation in the field of energy transition, energy security, and environmental protection and management. They underlined the importance of cooperation on renewable energy, clean hydrogen, battery technologies and recycling. They also noted the importance of grid-modernization efforts.  

Both sides underlined their support to advance overall cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and recognize its potential to strengthen the strategic relationship between the two countries.
Both sides expressed appreciation for the existing exchange of experience in clean technologies and green transport, and agreed to continue these efforts pragmatically and in line with national priorities. 

Cultural and People-to-People Exchange

Recognizing that friendship between nations is sustained by the goodwill of their peoples, the two sides praised the active cultural, academic, and tourism exchanges between Türkiye and Korea.  Both sides commended the work of educational and cultural institutions in fostering mutual understanding and language learning, and underlined the value of student mobility, cooperation in arts, and tourism as lasting bridges between societies. 

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the growing interest in each other’s culture, traditions, and contemporary life, and emphasized that such interaction forms the most enduring foundation of bilateral relations. 

Both sides also reiterated their determination to pass on this shared historical heritage to future generations. In this context, they expressed their intention to enhance efforts directed towards veterans and their families, to increase the exchange of experience between the relevant institutions of Korea and Türkiye, and to support joint commemorative events. It was underlined that this cooperation will further strengthen the bonds between the peoples of two countries.

In this regard, the two sides noted that improved connectivity, including closer cooperation in civil aviation, further strengthens cultural interaction by making travel and exchange between the two peoples easier, safer, and more accessible.   

Regional and Global Cooperation

The two sides reaffirmed their shared interest in maintaining international peace and stability, and in addressing global issues such as terrorism in all forms and manifestations, organized crimes and refugee matters.  They also exchanged views on regional developments and agreed that dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law are essential for the peaceful settlement of disputes. They underscored their commitment to upholding the global non-proliferation regime and also exchanged views on issues of concern.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization and lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. Türkiye expressed its support for the ROK’s efforts to resume dialogue through proactive de-escalation and confidence-building measures, with the aim of achieving peaceful coexistence and shared growth on the Korean Peninsula through the expansion of inter-Korean exchanges, normalization of relations, and advancing denuclearization.

Both sides emphasized their intention to working together in addressing humanitarian challenges and to contribute constructively to global peace and development.
