Head of Communications Duran’s statement on President Erdoğan’s meeting with President Lee of Republic of Korea

In a post shared on his NSosyal account, the Presidency's Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, commented on the meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Lee of the Republic of Korea.

In his message, Head of Communications Duran said:

"The meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Lee Jae Myung of the Republic of Korea marked a new phase in Türkiye and Korea relations.

The visit further strengthened the strong bonds established based on fraternity since the Korean War.

The two leaders shared a common vision on key issues, including defence industry, energy, nuclear technology, regional peace, and reconstruction efforts in Syria, Gaza, and Ukraine.

During the meetings, a comprehensive exchange of views on current regional and global issues took place, and documents were signed in various fields to strengthen the legal framework of our bilateral cooperation.

Our president emphasised that the successes achieved so far in the defence industry with our strategic partner South Korea will deepen through new projects. He stated that the Altay Tank project, delivered to our military last month, is one of the most successful examples of this. President Erdoğan outlined a broader cooperation perspective in the defence field, stating that 'we can take many steps together in the future.'

Engagements made in the energy sector were also among the summit’s most important topics. Noting that inter-institutional negotiations regarding the establishment of a nuclear power plant are ongoing, President Erdoğan stated that the memorandum of understanding signed between Türkiye Nuclear Energy Company and Korea Electric Power Corporation is a critical milestone. This step is of strategic importance for Türkiye's clean energy vision.

The will to collaborate in the reconstruction of Syria, Gaza, and Ukraine, as well as in other regions such as Iraq, Africa, and the Middle East, was reaffirmed. It was emphasised that Türkiye and South Korea share the same stance on maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza, protecting civilians, and supporting a two-state solution.

This visit has paved the way for new opportunities that will enhance cooperation between the two countries in energy, defence industry, transport, infrastructure, high technology, culture, and tourism.

The relations between Türkiye and South Korea, built on a legacy of brotherhood, will continue to be strengthened with concrete steps towards the future."
