The Presidency's Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, shared a post on his NSosyal account outlining Türkiye’s role at COP31, its efforts in the field of climate diplomacy and its preparations for the summit.
Head of Communications Duran made the following remarks in his statement:
"Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Türkiye is assuming a significant responsibility in the global fight against climate change. COP31, which we will host and preside over in Antalya from 9 to 20 November, presents a historic opportunity for our country to share its accumulated knowledge, experience and solution-oriented approach to climate diplomacy with the international community. We will welcome numerous heads of state and government and high-level representatives to our country at the Leaders’ Summit, to be held on 11–12 November. This gathering will also make a significant contribution to Türkiye’s international visibility, diplomatic relations and active role in global affairs.
The Zero Waste Project, which has grown into a global movement under the auspices of First Lady Emine Erdoğan, is one of the strongest examples of Türkiye’s pioneering approach to environmental issues. This vision, which ranges from the conservation of natural resources to waste management and the promotion of sustainable production and consumption, also highlights the importance of shared responsibility in the fight against climate change.
Under the coordination of our Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and COP31 President Murat Kurum, Türkiye is advancing a climate diplomacy approach centred on dialogue, consensus, and concrete action. We aim to make COP31 a summit where commitments are not merely voiced but translated into on-the-ground action, and where countries come together around shared solutions.
As the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, we are also carrying out comprehensive efforts to communicate Türkiye’s climate policies and COP31 vision to the international public. As part of the Environment and Climate Media Tours, we are hosting journalists from various countries in Türkiye and showcasing our environmental investments and examples of best practices on the ground. We are managing accreditation processes for national and international media representatives and contributing to preparations for the media centre at the conference venue. Our aim is to ensure that Türkiye’s climate efforts and proposed solutions are accurately and effectively conveyed to the global public.
I believe COP31 will be an important summit that strengthens cooperation among countries, fosters a sense of shared responsibility and translates climate action into tangible outcomes. As Türkiye, we will continue to fulfil our responsibility to build a more livable world and leave a cleaner environment for future generations."
