The Presidency’s Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, marked the ninth anniversary of the Zero Waste Movement with a message shared on his NSosyal account.
In his message, Head of Communications Duran said:
“Launched in 2017 under the auspices of First Lady Emine Erdoğan and coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change of Türkiye, the Zero Waste Movement has grown over the past nine years into a powerful environmental vision.
Built around the vision that ‘The World Is Our Common Home’, the movement is now carrying its mission forward under the call, ‘Together for the World, from Zero to COP31'.
We all have the right to live in a healthy, clean environment, and protecting the nature entrusted to us is our shared responsibility. Because a clean environment is the most precious legacy we can leave to future generations.
Today, the Zero Waste initiative has grown into a broad sphere of influence, from its contributions to the economy and the conservation of natural resources to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and educational programmes reaching millions of people.
Türkiye has pioneered a culture of shared responsibility that encourages us to rethink our consumption habits, protect our resources, reduce waste at the source, and make recovery part of everyday life, inspiring people around the world.
I am confident that this journey from local to global will pave the way for new initiatives to combat climate change and advance efforts to build a more sustainable future on the road to COP31.
On this occasion, I would like to express my gratitude to First Lady Emine Erdoğan for leading this major environmental mobilisation, as well as everyone who has made a contribution to this endeavour.
