Head of Communications Altun reacts to Leman Magazine

In a post he shared on his social media account, the Presidency's Head of Communications, Fahrettin Altun, condemned the cartoon depicting Prophet Muhammad published in Leman Magazine, stating that all units of the state have stepped in to address the matter.

In his post, Head of Communications Altun said:

"The immoral depiction of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the publication named Leman is an unacceptable provocation! All units of our state are taking the necessary action against this vile attack on our faith and values. It is of utmost importance that our citizens remain calm and refrain from responding to provocations.

As announced by our Minister of Justice, Mr Yılmaz Tunç, a judicial investigation has been initiated by the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for "publicly degrading religious values" in accordance with Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code.

As a result of the swift operation by the İstanbul Police Department units under the coordination of our Ministry of Interior, the individual named D.P., who created this indecent drawing, along with individuals named Z.A. and C.O., have been taken into custody as part of the investigation. Arrest warrants have also been issued for certain executives of the magazine.

The building belonging to the magazine is currently under the full control of our security forces and has been evacuated. Our state is working to bring all those responsible for the incident to justice.

The issue is being addressed with determination. Undesirable incidents that may occur around the magazine building are being prevented thanks to the measures taken by our security forces.

Let us not forget that the aim of such acts is to disrupt our social unity and brotherhood. We kindly ask our citizens to remain calm and refrain from responding to provocations."
