The 42nd Traditional Turkish Day Parade, as well as a number of additional events, were held in New York, US, under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications.
Presidency's Head of Communications Fahrettin Altun addressed the event's participants via video message, stating that this event, which has garnered significant interest from the Turkish-American community, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Azerbaijan, and the Turkic world, is a concrete expression of unity, solidarity, and friendship.
Highlighting that the event transcends a mere parade, serving as an opportunity to showcase Türkiye's historical legacy, cultural richness, and strong vision to the world, Altun continued:
"These moments, as our flag ascends to the sky, become even more profound with your participation and dedication.
You are each 'citizen diplomats' representing Türkiye's values and principles in these territories.
Owing to your achievements in civil society, the world of science, entrepreneurship, sports, culture and arts, you not only represent your individual existence but also assume a strong representation of our nation."
"We are a nation that does not hesitate to speak out in response to human tragedies"
Altun noted that the United States and Türkiye have shaped their relationship within the framework of their long-standing strategic partnership and NATO alliance, highlighting the importance of this lasting collaboration for fostering regional stability and global peace, in addition to defence cooperation.
Altun acknowledged that differences of opinion between the two countries may arise occasionally, expressing Türkiye's wish to advance this relationship based on mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and common interests.
Altun pointed out that the strengthening of partnerships in fields of trade, investment, and innovation enhances bilateral relations by generating greater momentum with each passing year, adding that collaborations in education and activities of cultural diplomacy reinforce societal ties by building lasting bridges of friendship between the two countries.
Underlining that humanity's most urgent need today is establishing a foundation for fairness, Altun said, "We are living at a time where we discuss and address many issues that disrupt the balance of the world in this manner."
Altun stated that the global trade and disinformation wars, the Russia-Ukraine war, the recent tensions between Pakistan and India, and the Israeli government's massacres in Gaza reveal the fragile nature of the international order and continued:
"We are a nation that does not hesitate to speak out in response to human tragedies wherever they take place across the globe. As a stabilising force, we have always stood by justice and the oppressed while standing up against the oppressor, and we will maintain this attitude looking forward.
In this context, the civil war coming to an end in Syria and the establishment of a transitional government representing a free Syria are favourable developments for our region and for world peace. Türkiye has always supported ensuring security and stability in Syria and preserving its territorial integrity."
"Peace, stability, and justice can only be achieved through a principled stance"
Altun noted that as Türkiye continues its struggle for peace and justice for all, it faces double standards in the international arena on several issues, particularly in the fight against terrorism.
Pointing out that the ground on which terrorist organisations targeting Türkiye and its surrounding region have been trying to gain a foothold for years poses a serious threat not only to the region but also to global security, Altun said, "This situation reminds us of a very clear truth: Peace, stability, and justice can only be achieved through a principled stance."
Altun highlighted that among the most urgent challenges we face today are the rise of Islamophobia and xenophobia, the justification of hatred through politics and media, and the dissemination of disinformation. He emphasised that in this chaotic environment, the unity and solidarity of the Turkish-American community hold significant value.
