Hagia Sophia Mosque book and website prepared by Directorate of Communications

The book titled “Hagia Sophia Mosque: The Trust of Fatih Sultan Mehmed Khan, The Common Heritage of Humanity” prepared in Turkish, English, and Arabic was distributed to visitors attending the reopening of the Hagia Sophia Mosque.

The website “ayasofyacamii.gov.tr”, prepared in Turkish and English, was also launched.

Directorate of Communications prepared the book titled “Hagia Sophia Mosque: The Trust of Fatih Sultan Mehmed Khan, The Common Heritage of Humanity” on the occasion of the reopening of the Hagia Sophia Mosque.

Prepared in three languages, the book consists of chapters “History and Protection of Hagia Sophia: The Valuable Contribution of the Ottoman Empire”, “The Conquest of Istanbul and Fatih’s Hagia Sophia Foundation Charter”, “Legal Status of Hagia Sophia”, “Hagia Sophia Mosque From the Perspective of International Law ”, “Protecting and Developing the Hagia Sophia Mosque in the New Period”.

The book also featured President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s “Address to the Nation” delivered following the decision to convert Hagia Sophia from a museum into a mosque.

The book was distributed to visitors attending the reopening of the Hagia Sophia Mosque.

In the foreword of the book, Director of Communications Prof. Fahrettin Altun stated the following: “As the Directorate of Communications, we wanted to leave this very valuable development as a note to history. This book in your hands provides a lot of detailed information to those interested in learning about the value of Hagia Sophia as a historical symbol as well as its architectural features. This book also addresses the importance of Hagia Sophia from the religious and cultural perspectives.”

The website “ayasofyacamii.gov.tr”, which has been built by the Directorate of Communications in Turkish and English and consists of chapters of the book, has also been launched.

There is also a special section on the website consisting of photos of the Hagia Sophia Mosque from the archives of the Directorate of Communications.

A section called “Hagia Sophia in Hearts”, which involves the messages sent to the Presidency’s Communication Center (CIMER)  by citizens expressing their pleasure and gratitude on the occasion of the reopening of the Hagia Sophia, is also available on the website.
