“Global developments have demonstrated the importance of our union under the Organization of Turkic States”

Holding a joint press conference with President Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan, President Erdoğan said: “Developments in the world and especially in our region have demonstrated the importance of our union under the Organization of Turkic States. I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize again that we would like to see Turkmenistan, which is an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States, as a full member in our family assembly.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan held a joint press conference following their talks at the Presidential Complex.

Beginning his remarks by expressing his pleasure to host President Berdimuhammedov and his delegation in Ankara, President Erdoğan said: “This visit is of particular importance as it is the first visit of my dear brother to Türkiye as President. Our relations, based on common history, language, religion and culture, are growing stronger every day on the basis of mutual respect, cooperation and common interests.”

“During our talks today, we evaluated our relations in all aspects and discussed opportunities for cooperation,” President Erdoğan said. “We signed agreements on energy, transport, trade, information technologies, SMEs, environment, meteorology and climate change, agriculture, standardization, accreditation, media, human resources management, youth and sports, education, culture and archives.”

“TURKMENISTAN IS ONE OF THE LEADING COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD IN TERMS OF ENERGY RESOURCES"

“On the basis of Turkmenistan's ‘Permanent Neutrality Status’, we exchanged views on current issues facing our region, particularly Gaza,” President Erdoğan said.

Stating that Turkmenistan is one of the leading countries of the region and the world in terms of energy resources, President Erdoğan said: “In the current conjuncture, the supply of Turkmenistan's natural gas to Türkiye and through Türkiye to global markets has gained a special strategic value. Both bilateral cooperation processes with Turkmenistan and trilateral cooperation processes with Azerbaijan are important in this context. Through these cooperation mechanisms, we aim to contribute to energy security together.

In this regard, we exchanged views on the development of the Trans-Caspian East-West-Middle Corridor.”

“During the talks, we realized that we have similar perspectives with Turkmenistan on many issues,” President Erdoğan said. “Developments in the world and especially in our region have demonstrated the importance of our union under the Organization of Turkic States. I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize again that we would like to see Turkmenistan, which is an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States, as a full member in our family assembly.”

“Our economic and trade relations naturally constituted a significant portion of today's agenda. Our companies operating in Turkmenistan have carried out more than $50 billion worth of contracting projects so far. While we are proud of this, we hope that our cooperation in this field will continue to increase. The Türkiye-Turkmenistan Business Forum organized today also helped to improve the interaction between our businessmen and relevant institutions,” President Erdoğan said.

“TÜRKİYE ALWAYS STANDS BY ITS TURKMEN BROTHERS AND SISTERS”

Recalling that Türkiye was the first country to recognize Turkmenistan's independence, President Erdoğan said: “Thanks to the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the vision of the National Leader and Chairman of the People’s Council of the National Assembly, my dear brother Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the efforts of the hardworking Turkmen people, Turkmenistan has achieved an exemplary progress in terms of development in the short period since its independence. “

“Türkiye has always stood by its Turkmen brothers and sisters since their independence and will continue to do so,” President Erdoğan underlined.
