Foundation-laying ceremony launches construction of Uzbekistan State School in Türkiye

The foundation-laying ceremony for the school to be built in Bakırköy was conducted by the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan attending via video conference. 

Among the attendees of the ceremony held in the Ataköy 7th–10th Sections Neighbourhood of Bakırköy were Uzbekistan’s Minister of Preschool and School Education Ezozkhon Karimova, Türkiye's Deputy Minister of National Education Bilal Macit, İstanbul Governor Davut Gül, Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in İstanbul Sherzod Abdunazarov, AK Party İstanbul Provincial Chair Abdullah Özdemir, along with Turkish and Uzbek citizens.

Following a moment of silence, the ceremony commenced with the singing of both the Turkish National Anthem and the national anthem of Uzbekistan, after which Uzbek artist Lola Akhmedova performed a mini-concert.

As the delegation proceeded to the ceremony area, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan joined the event via video conference during their joint press conference at the Presidential Complex.

Following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s request for a wide-angle view of the site designated for the school, along with his best wishes, the delegation, accompanied by Uzbek and Turkish children, unveiled the foundation stone.

With the aim of establishing counterpart educational institutions between the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Land Allocation Protocol was signed by the Ministers of National Education of both countries on 1 November 2025, providing for the allocation of the relevant properties.

Accordingly, the Republic of Uzbekistan allocated a site in the Kohota Neighbourhood of the Shaykhantakhur District in Tashkent to Türkiye. While ownership of the building remains vested in the Republic of Uzbekistan, a perpetual and free-of-charge usufruct right was granted to the Republic of Türkiye.

Correspondingly, the immovable property located within the grounds of Bakırköy Özyazıcı Special Education Secondary School in the Ataköy 7th–10th Sections Neighborhood of İstanbul’s Bakırköy District was allocated to the Republic of Uzbekistan, provided that ownership of the building remains with the Republic of Türkiye and that the allocation is made free of charge.
