The Symposium "Media's Struggle for Truth in the Gaza War: Violence, Disinformation, and Censorship," organised by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, will take place in İstanbul on January 26-27, 2024.
The Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun will deliver the opening remarks at the symposium, which will focus on journalists' struggle for truth in the Gaza War, access to accurate information, and journalist safety, as well as the role of international media in these issues.
The symposium, which will be attended by international members of the media from various countries, will also highlight the importance of the global struggle against disinformation.
The symposium will feature addresses by Palestine's Ambassador to Ankara, Faed Mustafa, as well as prominent figures from the international media community. Later, a video message will be delivered by Al-Araby TV's Gaza correspondent, Ahmed Al-Batta who has suffered significant family losses at the hands of Israeli attacks and has become a symbol of the conflict.
The symposium will encompass sessions on "Journalists' Safety in Conflict Zones and Attempts to Suppress and Intimidate Journalists," "The Role of International Media in the Israel-Palestine Conflict: Bias, Manipulation and Censorship," "The Illusionist Face of Digital Media: The Palestinian Cause," "Suppression and Intimidation of the Truth: A Global Struggle Against Disinformation," and "Global Public Opinion and Civil Society: The Power of Media in Influencing Mass Mobilisation." Following the two-day symposium, the "Bulletproof Dreams: Gaza Child Artists Exhibition" will be accessible to international members of the press and attendees for viewing.
