Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun shared a video prepared on the occasion of the Republic Day on his social media accounts, wishing, "Happy October 29 Republic Day."
The video with English subtitles states that after the First World War, occupiers divided Türkiye among themselves and seized its administration, adding, "They took over all economic activities and dismissed the existence of the Turkish nation. The Turkish people, who fought in all corners of the world in this war, lost millions of their sons and daughters and were overwhelmed by disease, calamity, and poverty. But they never lost their pride. The Turkish people, who rejected derogation, launched an unprecedented resistance with the War of Independence. The national struggle initiated by Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on May 19, 1919, was ultimately successful in driving the enemy from the homeland and getting them to sign a peace treaty."
Emphasising that this victory signalled the dawn of a new era, the video states:
"The Turkish nation would rewrite its destiny. Governance would be entrusted to the people. In this regard, on October 29, 1923, Parliament approved a proposal to administer the country as a Republic with great applause. Sovereignty now rested unconditionally with the nation. Today, we are working day and night to boost our country to the level of its contemporaries as we continue to work, produce, struggle, reject the economic tyranny imposed upon us, protect our national will and undertake initiatives to localise. In order to advance our country and carry it to the level it deserves on the international stage, we exert never-ending efforts in all fields, from health to transportation, energy to infrastructure, education to sports, and culture to industry. We celebrate Türkiye's Republic Day, which under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is sprinting towards its 2023, 2053 and 2071 goals."
