Directorate of Communications kicks off International Media Briefings

15 media members from 8 countries were briefed by a senior official from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in the event organized by the Directorate of Communications.

Presidency’s Directorate of Communications has launched a new series of briefing events for the international media. Conducting briefing activities for the international media in various fields from foreign policy to energy, from economics to politics, concerning the agenda of Turkey and the world, Directorate of Communications has also launched a series of meetings called “International Media Briefings” that will be held periodically with different themes.

The first meeting of the International Media Briefings was held on September 9, 2020, at the Working Office at Dolmabahçe Palace. 15 press members from 8 countries participated in the meeting held with the theme ‘Turkey's energy policy’.

During the meeting hosted by the Directorate of Communications, the representatives of the world's leading media outlets were briefed on the exploration and drilling activities conducted in the Black Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean as well as Turkey's energy policy by a senior official of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.

Answering the questions of press members for about an hour following his presentation, the Ministry official touched upon many issues, from natural gas contracts that will expire in 2021 to renewable energy.

Deputy Director of Communications Çağatay Özdemir (PhD) noted that the Directorate of Communications attached great importance to the briefing and public diplomacy activities for international press members and that such activities would gradually continue.

Ankara’s stance will be shared at the briefings to be held by the International Media Team of the Directorate of Communications regarding the issues on the agenda of Turkey and the world. Through these meetings, it is aimed to prevent disinformation, perception management operations, and fabricated news originating from foreign sources.
