Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun attended the "Presidency's Directorate of Communications Metaverse Platform Launch and Understanding the Meta Universe Panel" organized under the theme "Having a Say in the Digital Universe".
Indicating that the country has seen profound change and transformation in every respect with the Presidential System of Government, Director of Communications Altun noted that the Century of Türkiye is a vision that seeks to advance Türkiye in the second century of the Republic, not only geographically but also in the international arena, while also ensuring the technological independence of the country.
Director of Communications Altun stated that the Presidency's Directorate of Communications is closely monitoring the new information channels that have emerged as a result of the digital transformation and aims to strengthen the representation in these channels as well, saying that the metaverse, whose steps are being taken today, will surely be an integral part of future lifestyles.
Director of Communications Altun pointed out that children and youngsters will be significantly more involved in this new digital world and said, "Our President also describes the TEKNOFEST youth as those who go a few steps further with the metaverse. The direction outlined by our President, who has declared the upcoming era to be the period of digital mobilisation, is therefore quite significant."
"The Directorate of Communications is the first public institution in the metaverse"
Director of Communications Altun stated that Türkiye implements a visionary strategy with all its institutions, not only as users of these universes but also as creators, designers, pioneers, and rule makers for the whole world, and continued:
"It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the Presidency's Directorate of Communications is the first public institution in the metaverse to pioneer these new-generation technologies. As the first step of our Directorate’s Web 3 Transformation and Metaverse Strategy, today we are launching our Meta Office, which is accessible from all over the world with mobile devices. The Meta Office of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications will be accessible through the mobile device application by creating an avatar.
Furthermore, by utilizing location-based augmented reality technology, our Meta Office will be able to organize physical and digital events, and users will be able to participate in these events and interact with other avatars. Our Directorate's roles and responsibilities in this digital transformation process will undoubtedly not be limited to these steps. As the Directorate, we will bring the services and activities we provide to the metaverse. We closely follow developments in the Web 3 field and intend to expand our efforts in this area."
"It is critical to establish an international digital legal order"
Indicating that they do not overlook the fact that every new technology brings with it new challenges and threats, as well as new opportunities and benefits, Director of Communications Altun noted that they live in an increasingly digital culture, and they breathe in it.
Director of Communications Altun stated that every day, they are confronted with posts that know no legal or ethical boundaries in this medium, particularly on social media platforms, and they are put to the test by them, and he went on to say:
"As a result, in order to combat these issues, we have to reach a consensus not only at the national but also at the international level, and it is critical to establish a digital legal order that is achieved with this consensus. This is one of the critical responsibilities of the international community. The international system of today's world must absolutely build an international legal order to address digital challenges. We must work towards it altogether. As Türkiye, we try very hard to do the best that we can.
Because we know that our children are extremely interested in, knowledgeable about, and competent with technology's software and hardware. We have launched the National Technology Initiative to prevent our children from becoming data and customers for foreign games, applications, and companies, and to encourage them to become the producers of local and original technologies. Furthermore, through our Web 3 Transformation and Metaverse Strategy, which we will implement step by step, we will raise awareness among our citizens and institutions about the risks associated with these emerging technologies and ensure that they capitalize on these opportunities to the greatest extent possible. We continue to work towards this end."
"We aim to establish platforms that will be used globally"
On the other hand, Director of Communications Altun stated that they would continue to enact the necessary regulations to protect our citizens from the risks associated with these technologies, and went on to say:
"It is essential to establish the requirements for digital law rules that are meant to be implemented by all countries through mutual agreement, and we will continue to work toward this end. Similarly, it is necessary to focus on developing the infrastructure for the steps to be taken to ensure data security in the metaverse, where much more data obtained from separate fields in Web 1 and Web 2 is obtained from a single platform at the same time. In this literally chaotic digital climate, under the leadership of our President, we aim to produce not only technological infrastructure but also create content and establish platforms that can be used by us, our sphere of influence, and, ultimately, the entire world.
In this framework, truth will be as important in the metaverse and digital world as it is in the real world. All technological and digital pressures that disregard the truth and the people must be fought. We must work hard to create a fair, human-centred, and safe world in the metaverse in the face of technological and digital pressures that ignore the truth and people. As our President has stated, we will make Türkiye a stabilizing force against the turmoil and uncertainties of the digital world, while striving to make the Century of Türkiye also the Century of Digitalization, Century of Communication, and the Century of the Youth."
Director of Communications Altun stated that being the global pioneer of this newly developing web 3 and metaverse ecosystem will provide them with significant opportunities in the country's journey to become a global power, and added that having a say in the digital universe is possible by utilizing the potential offered by the metaverse technology.
