Director of Communications Prof. Fahrettin Altun called for “digital awareness” in a post he shared on his Twitter account.
In his post with the hashtag #DijitalFarkındalık (digital awareness), Fahrettin Altun made remarks on matters such as the “use of social media in the world and in Turkey,” “digital awareness and cyber homeland,” “digital citizen,” “digital diplomacy,” “digital perception management,” “cyber security” and “artificial intelligence”.
Fahrettin Altun noted the following:
“We are incorporating our cyber borders into our land-sea-air border areas in today's world, where technology exists in every aspect of our lives and the individual and corporate communication networks are maintained through digital channels. We introduce the digital world to our citizens.
We say that the digital world is also bigger than 5. It is in our power to change the content and direction of the international play in the digital world.
We are responsible for the legal, conscientious and humanitarian aspects of the posts we share on digital channels. There is the “real” us in the digital world as well.
Today, diplomatic channels and state administrations are also changing rapidly. In the changing world, the state-citizen and the state-state relations are also getting digitalized. The Age of Digital Diplomacy!
Unfortunately, not everything in the digital world is as it seems. The digital world is a world in which it is easy to erode and alter facts. We must be careful to reach the truth.
The main unease caused by the digital world: the confidentiality of personal data and the right to privacy. Let's not forget that we all have fingerprints in the digital world.
While strengthening our place in the digital world, we also have to closely follow the technology. The technology of today and tomorrow: Artificial Intelligence.”
Fahrettin Altun stated that the Guide on the Use of Social Media, prepared by the Directorate of Communications, could be utilized for the protection of minds against perception operations in the digital world and for the security of personal data.
