Director of Communications Altun’s post regarding the news “containing disinformation in the Greek press”

Director of Communications Altun: "We remain steadfast in our commitment to the truth, not only for our nation but for the welfare of humanity as a whole."

Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun shared a post on his social media account regarding the news containing disinformation, alleging that "Türkiye harassed Greek fishermen in Kardak".

In a post on social media, Director of Communications Altun said, "Disinformation is malicious."

Noting that he would like to give a significant example of how they countered a manipulative news story aimed at undermining the rapprochement process between Türkiye and its neighbour Greece, Altun added:

"Greece's ANT1 television channel stated in its main news broadcast that 'Türkiye harassed Greek fishermen in Kardak' based on some footage. The manipulative news spread rapidly on social media platforms, attempting to manipulate public opinion in Greece. Following the process, the Centre for Combating Disinformation of the Directorate of Communications established that the footage used dates back to three years ago.

Our experts, in coordination with Turkish Coast Guard officials, confirmed that there was no recent altercation, as suggested by the misleading report. In three languages—Turkish, English, and Greek—our Centre for Combating Disinformation declared that the news was disinformation. Upon the backlash following the refutation, ANT1 television was compelled to rectify its story. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the truth, not only for our nation but for the welfare of humanity as a whole."
