Director of Communications Altun said, "Today, the putschists will be brought before our nation's conscience once more with the event 'Yassıada Court is Being Tried,' which will be attended by our President on Democracy and Freedom Island, which was previously known as Yaslıada (Mourning Island) and has been cleared of all traces of putschists."
Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun posted a message on social media on the 62nd anniversary of the military coup staged on May 27, 1960, wishing mercy upon Adnan Menderes, Hasan Polatkan and Fatin Rüştü Zorlu on the anniversary of the May 27 coup, one of the embarrassing chapters of Turkish political history.
Emphasizing that the putschist mentality that regarded intervention in the national will as legitimate was condemned in the conscience of the nation, Director of Communications Altun noted in his message:
"Today, the putschists will be brought before our nation's conscience once more with the event 'Yassıada Court is Being Tried,' which will be attended by our President on Democracy and Freedom Island, which was previously known as Yaslıada (Mourning Island) and has been cleared of all traces of putschists. May 27, the symbol of this interventionist mentality, which is forever condemned in the conscience of our nation, inspired the coups of March 12, September 12, February 28, and lastly, the evil plots like the July 15 coup attempt perpetrated by FETO.
However, our nation reversed its misfortune and put an end to this evil mentality on July 15 with the epic resistance led by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. July 15th is, therefore, a turning point. On that day, our people proclaimed to the putschist terrorists and the entire world that they would not tolerate any intervention or tyranny that disregarded their dignity, and the spirit of resistance on that day will live on in the hearts of our nation forever, just as May 19 will."
