Director of Communications Altun: “We call upon all media organizations to be vigilant about those who are trying to serve their war aims”

Presidency’s Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun shared a post in English on his social media account, saying: Respectable and decent journalism can serve peace through reflecting the realities that are otherwise hidden from the scrutiny of the general public.

Director of Communications Altun remarked; “Some reporters have lost their lives in the pursuit of truth. We strongly oppose attacks and massacres against civilians including our colleagues. There is no excuse for targeting reporters in a cynical effort to undermine the truth and hide the facts on the ground. Respectable and decent journalism can serve peace through reflecting the realities that are otherwise hidden from the scrutiny of the general public.”

The info wars in social media continue to pose a danger to our access to accurate information. Organized groups constantly conduct disinformation campaigns that distort or fabricate reality. In such a critical time, all media institutions have a duty to report verified information only.

Stating that the info wars in social media continue to pose a danger to our access to accurate information, Director of Communications Altun expressed the following:

“Organized groups constantly conduct disinformation campaigns that distort or fabricate reality. In such a critical time, all media institutions have a duty to report verified information only. We call upon all media organizations and reporters to pay extra attention to misinformation campaigns and be vigilant about those who are trying to serve their war aims by manipulating publics around the world. At a time when courageous journalists are endangering their own lives to report the truth from conflict zones, editorial teams at news organizations have a particularly important role to play. They must report accurately and push back against disinformation campaigns.”

Conveying that broadcasters must work to contribute to peace by airing correct information and insisting on the truth, Director of Communications Altun warned that they must diligently monitor inflammatory rhetoric and deny airtime to those who seek to exploit news organizations.

Director of Communications Altun continued with the following remarks:

“We are all eternally grateful to our colleagues on the ground who risk their lives in the service of the truth. They are the ones who truly understand the critical importance of serving the cause of peace by pursuing the facts and realities on the ground. We live in the age of information which has unleashed enormous possibilities for the mankind. At the same time, it has brought with it extremely dangerous methods of destroying the truth utilized by bad actors. We must stand and fight together for truth and for peace.”
