Director of Communications Altun: “Those who wish to provoke our nation by hiding behind fake accounts will be undoubtedly held to account before the law”

Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun said, "All relevant state institutions are working to combat both the fire and such systematic disinformation and perception management operations. Those who wish to provoke our nation by hiding behind fake accounts will undoubtedly be held to account before the law."

In a statement on his social media account, Director of Communications Altun stated that some malicious forces had increased their attempted dose of systematic disinformation, provocation, and perception management operations, particularly on social media, by capitalising on the wildfires that tore everyone's hearts apart and against which the state effectively fought with all of its means.

Altun stated that Türkiye had one of the world's few fire brigades and that it has been working in total mobilisation with all state institutions full steam ahead since the beginning to bring the fires under control and completely extinguish them, adding, " Those who seek to discredit our fight against wildfires for ideological reasons are also attempting to create "social fault lines" by spreading false information. In the face of such social media provocations, our nation is alert and rational."

Altun made the following remarks:

"All relevant state institutions are working to combat both the fire and such systematic disinformation and perception management operations. Those who wish to provoke our nation by hiding behind fake accounts will undoubtedly be held to account before the law. We are also disturbed to find that some media outlets are part of the 'network' that conducts disinformation and perception management operations. We urge our media institutions to be responsible in the face of the harm that ratings-driven or ideologically motivated broadcasting can cause."
