Director of Communications Altun: The conquest of Istanbul served as a catalyst in bringing civilisations together instead of separating them

In a thread shared on his social media account on the 569th anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul, Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun said, “Mehmed the Conqueror’s vision to live up to the promise of this great city for Islam included protecting other cultures to ensure respect and tolerance for the other. As we think about his example, we are reminded of how much we are in need of such grace today.”

Stating that they remember and celebrate the moment that forever changed the course of history today, Director of Communications Altun stressed that a young yet ambitious leader set out to achieve something no other had managed to accomplish, and Mehmed II’s vision and perseverance became an example for generations to come.

Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun added:

“On the 569th anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul, we must reflect on the significance of this moment for human history. This event served as a catalyst in bringing civilisations together instead of separating them. Mehmed II was inspired by our Prophet Muhammed’s foretelling of this great achievement and what it would mean for Islam. At the same time, he understood that he was to inherit the legacy and heritage of Byzantine and Roman civilisations. Mehmed the Conqueror’s vision to live up to the promise of this great city for Islam included protecting other cultures to ensure respect and tolerance for the other. As we think about his example, we are reminded of how much we are in need of such grace today.”

Our ancestors understood the central importance of this city in elevating the cause of peace around the world”

Stating that Istanbul has shined as a beacon of freedom, tolerance, and peace for all cultures and religions in the past six centuries, Director of Communications Altun said, “Our ancestors understood the central importance of this city in elevating the cause of peace around the world.”

Stating that great leaders emerge out of historical conditions through their vision, strength, and courage, Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun continued as follows:

“When we look at our history, we are proud that it has produced so many great leaders to this day. As we celebrate the accomplishments of our forefathers, we must do everything we can to protect their heritage and live up to their vision of peace around the world. Under President Erdoğan’s leadership, this is exactly what we are trying to do as we fight for justice. The latest testament to our commitment to this great city is our efforts to build a national garden on the grounds of the former Istanbul airport. Today, we’re planting saplings for future generations. May them be as auspicious as what we have inherited from our forefathers.”
