With the circular issued by President Erdoğan in 2019, November 11 is observed as "National Afforestation Day".
Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun shared a special video for "National Afforestation Day". The video shared by Altun on his social media account states that 252 million saplings will be planted this year in the spirit of green mobilisation, providing a breath for the future, particularly in areas affected by wildfires and floods. “Green conservation and development are two phenomena that are inextricably linked,” Altun said, highlighting Türkiye’s Green Homeland Vision.

The video shared by Altun emphasises that;
- increase in air temperatures
- increase in carbon emissions day by day
- melting of glaciers
- wildfires, floods, storms, drought, and the rise of desertification are clear indicators of global climate change
The video emphasises that Türkiye, which has adopted a sustainable, inclusive, balanced, and environmentalist development approach, considers its green environment commitment as an obligation to future generations and views international agreements such as the Paris Agreement as the collective accumulation of humanity, and notes the following “Zero waste policy, renewable energy incentives, efforts to increase green areas, nation's gardens and tree planting campaigns prove Türkiye's dedication to green economy.”
TÜRKİYE HAS THE HIGHEST INCREASE IN ITS FOREST AREA IN EUROPE
The video emphasises that Türkiye has become the country that has increased its forest area the most in Europe, and has achieved significant success, reaching sixth place in the world thanks to all these efforts, states:
“While our forest areas have increased by 2.1 million hectares over the last two decades, we began observing "National Afforestation Day" in 2019 on November 11 of each year under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This initiative, which has made a significant contribution to the development of a sense of Green Homeland in our country, continues to grow today with the participation of 70 countries worldwide. 252 million saplings will be planted this year in the spirit of green mobilisation, providing a breath for the future, particularly in areas affected by wildfires and floods. Acting with the awareness that green conservation and development are two phenomena that are inextricably linked, Türkiye will continue to fight climate change, adopting the principle of "International cooperation for a fairer, more sustainable, and habitable world" in line with its green development initiative.
