Director of Communications Altun receives China’s National Radio and Television Administration delegation

Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun received the delegation led by the Deputy Minister of China’s National Radio and Television Administration.

During his speech at the meeting, Altun indicated that the world was going through a period of transition whose impact was felt deeply and that constructive dialogue and joint efforts were of great value to global peace and stability.

Pointing that Turkey advocated multilateralism based on international law rather than a unilateral world order, Altun expressed that China had always been considered one of the most important partners in this process.

Altun highlighted there was a very concrete political will, especially at the level of heads of states, between Turkey and China to enhance cooperation in the fields of politics, economics, culture and security.

Altun stated they wanted the strong cooperation between the two friendly countries to be reflected in the fields of media, communication and public diplomacy, and he noted that it was important to share experiences with one another and to put forward concrete projects in these areas.

Expressing that both Turkey and China’s TV series and film sectors made a serious move, Altun said: “We are proud of this industry. In this process, we consider the contribution of TRT to be very valuable. The fact that our productions find themselves a place in China will constitute an important channel for developing closer relations. We will also be pleased with Chinese investments in Turkish TV series and film industry.”

Fahrettin Altun continued as follows:

"We think our common problem is that there is black propaganda against China and Turkey especially in the international arena. Our cooperation will also be crucial in tackling them. In particular, we can counter this unnecessary and negative propaganda through joint public diplomacy activities and media projects. It is very important that our media representatives come together for credible and high-quality works to report accurately on international developments as well as on each other.”

At this point, we attach great importance to these mutual visits in the field of media and communication. We can organize different exchange programs as well as mutual visits of press members on a regular basis. We can hold periodic seminars and workshops in order to build vocational ties in the field of press and information."

Altun also conveyed his request for the acceleration of the process regarding the “Protocol on Cooperation and Exchange in the Field of Press and Information” currently on the agenda of the Directorate of Communications and the Chinese State Council Information Office.

Reminding that the potential areas of cooperation were discussed during TRT delegation’s working visit to China last April, Altun referred to the process regarding the joint production agreement signed between Chinese Media Group and TRT as a very positive step.

Altun indicated that they approached the cooperation protocols with a win-win philosophy, and continued:

"We believe Turkey and China should work very closely in the field of media and communication pursuant to their new philosophy of cooperation since this is what the political will dictates in both countries."

"Many Turkish TV series and films have been shown in China recently"

China's National Radio and Television Administration Deputy Minister Gao Jianmin said that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan showed a clear will for more cooperation and communication between the two countries.

Noting that Turkey and China were amoung the world’s leading countries in terms of deep mutual understanding, Gao Jianmin said:

"We are ready to take concrete steps in order to further deepen our friendship and create more effective communication and cooperation mechanisms between our countries. Many Turkish TV series and films have recently been shown in China and admired by the Chinese people. In 2018, a total of 8 Turkish series were broadcasted in China. Your sincere welcome serves as an indication of the importance you attribute to enhancing cooperation between China and Turkey in the field of media and communication. We believe that our cooperation in this field will both deepen further and provide us with new opportunities. We firmly believe that a much stronger cooperation is ahead for us."
