Director of Communications Altun holds bilateral meetings on the margins of OIC Islamic Conference of Information Ministers

Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun held bilateral meetings on the margins of the 12th Session of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Director of Communications Altun met with the OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha, Minister of Commerce and Media of Saudi Arabia Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Somalia Daud Aweis Jama, and the Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev on the sidelines of the conference hosted by Türkiye at the Conrad Hotel in Beşiktaş.

In his meeting with the OIC Secretary-General Taha, Director of Communications Altun emphasised the importance of the OIC Conference of Information Ministers as a platform for cooperation and thanked Taha as the representative of the OIC personnel for their auspices.

Director of Communications Altun said President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan explicitly and clearly stated Türkiye's stance and approach in his address yesterday and added, "First of all, he emphasised the cooperation and unity of Islamic nations. He emphasised that this was the only means of fighting Islamophobia worldwide. Similarly, he emphasised the significance of Islamic nations, which unite to seek the truth, fighting systematic disinformation campaigns. We are striving to direct our efforts in this manner. Once again, I appreciate your contributions to this process."

OIC Secretary-General Taha praised Director of Communications Altun and President Erdoğan for organising this summit in Istanbul.

Taha stated that there was a significant struggle against disinformation and added, "We must fight Islamophobia. OIC member states should cooperate. It is essential that Islamophobia be recognised as a crime."

"We attach great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of media and information"

In his meeting with the Advisor to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev, Director of Communications Altun said they discussed the reflections of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Joint Media Platform with several other nations from the Islamic world.

Stating that they continue to work within the framework of the instructions and guidance of the presidents of the two countries, Director of Communications Altun said that they attached great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of media and information and that they were ready to further develop cooperation in this field.

Director of Communication Altun thanked Hajiyev for his contributions to the platform.

Hikmet Hajiyev congratulated sister country Türkiye and Director of Communications Altun on this organisation and stated that both Türkiye and Azerbaijan were instrumental in fostering this climate.

He stated that the issue of disinformation was highlighted two years ago as a result of the recommendations and instructions of the two countries' presidents, adding that this would be a very important measure that would unite other OIC states as well.

Signing of a protocol for media and communication cooperation with Guinea-Bissau

Afterwards, Director of Communications Altun, along with Minister of Social Communication of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau Fernando Mendonça, signed the protocol of cooperation in the field of media and communication between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

The signed protocol aims to strengthen friendly relations, improve relations and cooperation in the fields of media and communication, ensure the parties gain a deeper understanding of each other's current economic, political, cultural, and social lives, and facilitate an exchange of perspectives on communication activities.

In this context, it is intended to promote assistance and facilitation in various areas, such as increasing reciprocal visits, organising joint events by media members and opinion leaders, and providing reciprocal internship and training opportunities.

In addition, yesterday, Director of Communications Altun also met with Minister of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan Maryam Aurangzeb and Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance of Iran Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili.
