Director of Communications Altun: Greece acts like a mafia state

Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun condemned the Greek authorities' targeting AA reporters. Stating that Greece acted like a mafia state, Altun said, “You will pay the price if those Turkish reporters come in harm’s way.”

Greek authorities targeted Anadolu Agency (AA) reporters through a website.

Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun reacted strongly to the targeting of Turkish journalists reporting on Meis.

In a post he shared on his social media account, Altun emphasized that Greece acts like a mafia state.

“We condemn the Greek authorities’ efforts to incite violence, through a fascist website, against AA journalists in Meis. That Greek journalists work freely in Turkey, which the EU loves to lecture on press freedom, as Greece, an EU member, acts like a mafia state is worth noting. My message to Greece is as follows: You will pay the price if those Turkish reporters come in harm’s way. Nobody can silence Anadolu Agency, whose staff work in the most hostile environments, through threats, intimidation or the publication of their personal information.”

Scandal threat against AA team on Greece’s Meis Island

AA’s Athens Representative Tevfik Durul and photojournalist Ayhan Mehmet flew from the Greek capital to Rhodes Island yesterday and then went to Meis Island by ship.

A Greece-based anti-Turkish, racist website Turkikanea.gr published a provocative editorial a few hours after the arrival of the AA team in the Meis Island in the evening for reporting purposes.

In the editorial, provocative expressions saying "Why do we allow Turkish citizens, who are spies of the National Intelligence Organization (NIO), to go to Meis? Why did we let them set foot on the island?” were used.

The website also published the photo of AA Representative Durul’s passport identity page, which should only be kept by the Greek authorities, this was striking.

An explanation is expected from the Greek authorities on how the racist website obtained the photo of the passport identity page that Durul did not share anywhere during his Athens-Meis trip.

The racist website also acted in a provocative manner by posting information on the birthplace of AA photojournalist Ayhan Mehmet.
