Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun said, "February 28 is a coup. February 28 is not only a military coup but also a political, cultural, and social one. February 28 is a process which was used to try and strangle the society. February 28 is the seed of discord."
Director of Communications Altun shared a post on his Twitter account on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the February 28 coup, which is referred to as the "postmodern coup" in Turkish political history.
Stating that it was the anniversary of suspending the democracy, the people's will, the legitimate power, the fundamental rights and freedoms by the pro-coup mindset, and the overthrow of the Government of the Republic of Türkiye through a coup d'etat using postmodern techniques, Altun pointed out that besides being a coup against the Government of the Republic of Türkiye, February 28 was also another name for the witch hunt launched against a large segment of society, the destruction of the living spaces of an essential part of the society by suspending fundamental rights and freedoms.
Noting that the anti-democratic and immoral process, which aimed to take a significant part of the society out of the system from education to health, from trade to culture, was carried out with military-civilian cooperation, Altun said:
"Certain political parties, NGOs, and so-called intellectuals were in this choir. With the power and inspiration from its history, our august nation responded to the mindset that staged February 28 in a short time by bringing their own children back to power. Because February 28 is a process in which those who harboured a grudge against our august nation and values were hand in hand. February 28 is a coup. February 28 is not only a military coup but also a political, cultural, and social one. February 28 is a process which was used to try and strangle the society. February 28 is the seed of discord. February 28 is the venom that those who harboured a grudge against the nation spat out. February 28 is a colonial mentality."
