Director of Communications Altun: "We will continue to contribute to the development of an effective media environment by taking numerous steps, such as improving the working conditions of members of the press and supporting sectoral innovations."
Presidency’s Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun issued a congratulatory message on the occasion of January 10 Working Journalists' Day.
Mentioning that the media sector and members of the press play a significant role in the public's access to accurate information about national and international issues, Director of Communications Altun said, "The right to access news in a healthy and reliable manner also has a component that strengthens democracy. Journalists, who are the representatives of the truth, also perform a vital function in this direction. Therefore, journalism that takes into consideration professional principles, democratic values, and legal rights is undoubtedly a respectable profession."
Stating that the steps taken to strengthen democracy, rights and freedoms in Türkiye in recent years have also enabled the formation of a media climate in which freedom of the press and expression is felt most widely, Director of Communications Altun noted:
"Of course, it goes without saying that no country will permit this potential to be utilised for evil purposes like terrorist propaganda and disinformation. Journalists who stick to the truth bear the biggest responsibility for not taking advantage of the profession and safeguarding its reputation.
As President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pointed out, “The century of Türkiye will also be the century of communication.' I am confident that our members of the press, who are among the most important elements of communication, will continue to provide our nation and international public opinion with a realistic and healthy perspective on the developments in our country, region and the world.
As the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, we will continue to contribute to the development of an effective media environment by taking numerous steps, such as improving the working conditions of members of the press and supporting sectoral innovations. I extend my heartfelt congratulations on Working Journalists' Day to our esteemed members of the press who carry out their duties with honour, decency, and the truth throughout the country and around the world. I would like to convey my gratitude to the journalists who have enhanced the profession's credibility, reputation, and quality, and I wish success to all members of the press success."
