Director of Communications Altun calls for an end to attacks against press members and civilians in Palestine

In a post he shared on his social media account, Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun stated that the international community, press, and media organisations should react firmly to the killing of civilians and press members on duty in Gaza.

Director of Communications Altun stated in his post that 38 journalists have lost their lives in Israel's devastating attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023.

Director of Communications Altun emphasised that this process, in which people, including children, women, the elderly, journalists, and healthcare workers, were murdered, human rights violations were at their peak, freedom of the press and the right to receive information were ignored or blocked, and even journalists doing their duty were killed, was unacceptable and said:

"The international community, press, and media organisations must speak out louder against this shame and humanitarian crisis and react firmly to the killing of press members on duty. In a time when we should be talking about freedom of the press and expression, we are being compelled to bring up the right to life. This alone reveals the scale of the atrocities. It is the responsibility of everyone who believes in democracy and freedoms to protect the rights of press members working in Gaza. We once again remember with respect and mercy the members of the press and civilians who lost their lives and call for an immediate end to these attacks."
