Current Situation Regarding Forest Fires Occuring Throughout Our Country

As of January 1, 2025, there have been 3,015 fires reported, including 1,295 in forested regions and 1,720 in non-forested regions.

Over the past week, the fires have been particularly intense due to high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds.

In the period from June 26 to July 3, 576 forest fires were recorded. Among these fires, 331 originated in non-forested regions and subsequently spread to forested areas.

Over the past week, significant fires have taken place in İzmir (Aliağa, Bornova, Menderes, Gaziemir, Seferihisar), Manisa (Akhisar, Kula, Ahmetli), Hatay (Antakya), Bolu (Göynük), Adana (Kozan), Bursa (Mustafakemalpaşa), Sakarya/Bilecik border, and Bilecik (Vezirhan). A total of 574 fires, including the ones mentioned, have been successfully brought under control.

During these fires, our 27 aircraft and 105 helicopters deployed 29,575 tonnes of water across a total of 8,884 sorties. Furthermore, 25,000 of our personnel, along with nearly 6,000 fire trucks, first response vehicles, and construction machinery, effectively addressed the fires.

Currently, fires are ongoing in Çeşme, Ödemiş, and Buca in İzmir, as well as in Silivri, İstanbul. The General Directorate of Forestry, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, is currently engaged in efforts to rigorously manage the flames. The fires are being addressed with the use of aircraft, helicopters, fire trucks, first response vehicles, and construction machinery as ground units, in addition to firefighting, first aid, security, and AFAD teams and vehicles.
