The "Crisis Communication Hackathon" organised by the Directorate of Communication has kicked off in İstanbul.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the programme organised at Türkiye Sports Writers Association (TYSD), Gökhan Yücel, Head of Department for Strategic Communication and Crisis Management at Presidency’s Directorate of Communications stated that the hackathon, which would be held with the participation of young software developers and start-up owners from various provinces, would continue for 36 hours.
Expressing that the state took all necessary measures in the wake of the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes and will continue to do so in the future, Yücel explained that the event, which was organised to involve the youth in these processes and to receive all their contributions and listen to their projects, practices, solutions, and technology-based solutions, will last for 2 days.
Pointing out that communication, digitalisation and communication are all inextricably linked today, Yücel stated that the Directorate of Communications conducts extremely serious studies under the principle of institutionalising strategic communication.
“The century of Türkiye is also the century of communication and digitalisation”
Stating that strategic communication, crisis management, the fight against disinformation, public diplomacy, public relations and almost all of their fields of activity have a technology pillar, Yücel said, "Crisis management is undoubtedly one of their key pillars, but it does not stand alone from the other pillars. Here, we seek to contribute to the processes we refer to as 'improvement' by paying attention to the youth's excitement and solution suggestions, particularly by utilising the youth's agility, as well as the solutions associated with the communication.”
Hackathon will last 36 hours
The Hackathon, a gathering of young software developers, will continue unabated for 36 hours in order to develop new technological solutions against risks that may arise on communication networks during a disaster.
While the Crisis Communication Hackathon will be a competition where expert mentors will accompany the competitors in their field, the mentors will respond to any questions that the competing groups have from the start of the competition to the finish line, giving the competitors new perspectives and enabling them to have a different perspective on their software.
