“COVID-19 has reminded us once again that we are actually one big family sharing a common fate and future”

In his video message for Global Vaccine Summit 2020, President Erdoğan said: “I hope from the bottom of my heart that the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization will achieve its goals for 2021-2025. COVID-19 has reminded us once again that we are actually one big family sharing a common fate and future.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed heads of state and government as well as participants in a video message for Global Vaccine Summit 2020 held in London. The President stated:

“TURKEY HAS UNDERLINED THE IMPORTANCE OF GLOBAL SOLIDARITY AND COOPERATION SINCE THE START OF THE PANDEMIC”

“I hope from the bottom of my heart that the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization will achieve its goals for 2021-2025. COVID-19 has reminded us once again that we are actually one big family sharing a common fate and future.

Turkey has underlined the importance of global solidarity and cooperation since the start of the pandemic. In this process, we have extended a helping hand to all of our friends as well as meeting our own needs. We have provided medical supplies to 102 countries so far.

As part of our national efforts to battle the pandemic, we have set up a dedicated platform to conduct vaccine and drug studies. In addition to the private sector and universities, 8 out of the 17 projects under the umbrella of this platform are devoted solely to developing vaccines. Hence, Turkey has already spent more than 75 million Euros for the international assistance and vaccine development initiatives mentioned above.

“WE ATTACH GREAT IMPORTANCE TO MAINTAINING THE GLOBAL SYNERGY CREATED THROUGH THE VACCINE DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS”

We attach great importance to maintaining the global synergy created through the vaccine development efforts. We consider today’s Summit to be an initiative that supports and complements the G-20 Extraordinary Summit of March 26 and the ‘Coronavirus Global Response’ international pledging event of May 4. There is no doubt that the availability of the vaccine to humanity as a whole and its production in adequate quantities for all are as critical as its development. The coronavirus pandemic should not be allowed to further deepen the injustices across the world.

While concluding my remarks, I would like to stress the readiness of Turkey to work in cooperation with GAVI and other stakeholders for efforts in the post-pandemic period. I extend my regards to you all, in the hope of a world where actions speak louder than words.”
