Communication campaign for July 15

According to the circular signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the task of coordinating commemoration events at home, particularly in Istanbul and Ankara, and abroad was assigned to Presidency’s Directorate of Communications on the occasion of July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day.

Following the coordination meetings with ministries, public agencies, non-governmental organizations and universities, “July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day Commemoration Events Strategy Paper” was drafted in order to organize commemoration events and projects in compliance with the spirit of July 15.

All the events were planned in a framework to explain the July 15 Coup attempt and Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETO) thoroughly in an effective manner; to highlight nation’s resistance, the struggle of the state and democracy victory; to commemorate martyrs and veterans; to keep the spirit of national unity and collective memory alive and to raise awareness overseas.

Ministries, public agencies, non-governmental organizations and universities arranged a total of nearly 1500 events and projects at home and abroad concerning the July 15 coup attempt.

A holistic communication strategy

To provide visual integrity as well as the content for all these events and projects, Presidency’s Directorate of Communications built a corporate identity particularly for July 15 logo,  for documents such as banners, announcements, invitations, notices, etc., and for visual materials.

Videos prepared in 7 languages were available on the website built for July 15 (www.15temmuz.gov.tr). The website also included a digital archive that allows you to access the chronology, photos, videos, all other records and information about July 15.

Videos and visual materials prepared will be available on various platforms such as televisions, newspapers, social media, billboards, airports, train stations and screens of Turkish Airlines in-flight entertainment systems throughout the week of July 15.

Presidency’s Directorate of Communications also organized many events and projects concerning July 15 at home and abroad in addition to its task of general coordination.

“The Network” documentary telling about FETO

Prepared by TRT World, a documentary called “The Network” revealing the dark and bloody face of FETO travelled around the world in collaboration with the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications. The documentary was screened in 16 cities and 13 countries, namely Belgium, UK, Albania, France, North Macedonia, Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, USA, South Africa, Kyrgyzstan, Italy and Kosovo.

July 15 photos on the streets of New York

Vans with led screens toured the streets of New York, displaying the poster and trailer of a documentary called “The Network” as well as photos of nation’s resistance.

International panels

International panels were organized in Washington and Madrid between July 11-18 in order to raise awareness abroad about the attempted coup of July 15 and FETO structure.

July 15 Short Film and Screenplay Contest

Presidency’s Directorate of Communications organized a Short Film and Screenplay Contest with July 15 theme to keep our collective memory regarding the coup attempt alive. With the applications running until September, the contest aims to contribute to the development of national consciousness, to produce qualified content related to July 15 and to strengthen the awareness of democracy.

July 15 Library

A library featuring all books, magazines and reports on July 15 that have been published so far by the publishing houses as well as ministries, public institutions, non-governmental institutions, universities and think-tanks opened at the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications.

Short film in memory of July 15 martyrs

A short film narrating a story of remembrance and healing starting from the moment July 15 martyrs heard about the coup attempt and depicting the belongings left behind by the martyrs and the memories of their families was created. With its scenario based on real stories, the film was broadcast simultaneously in all TV channels at the same time that the coup attempt began.

July 15 Public Service Ad

A public service ad has been prepared telling Turkey's adventure of democracy through the story of three generations of women who witnessed the 27 May 1960 and 12 September 1980 coups and July 15, 2016 coup attempt.

July 15 International Anti-Coup Hackathon

The launch event of the “July 15 International Anti-Coup Hackathon” to be organized in September under the auspices of the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications was held in Istanbul.

Simultaneous choreography performed in Istanbul and London

A commemorative choreography was performed simultaneously in Istanbul and London to mark July 15. The choreography featured a story symbolizing the unity, solidarity and cooperation of the Turkish nation on July 15.

"July 15 Victory of the Nation" Digital Display Centre

“July 15 Victory of the Nation” Digital Display Centre, where the videos prepared to commemorate our glorious martyrs and the victory of democracy that the nation won with sacrifice and determination against the July 15 coup attempt, opened in Taksim.

July 15 on the walls of Haydarpaşa Terminal

Presidency’s Directorate of Communications held a mapping show in memory of July 15 martyrs and veterans on the wall of Haydarpaşa Terminal building facing Kadıköy. The visual show depicted the resistance of our nation and martyrs.

July 15 High-Speed Train

With the cooperation of the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications and Turkish State Railways (TCDD), a High-Speed Train carrying passengers between Istanbul and Ankara was covered with July 15 themed images.
