Commemorative message from Head of Communications Duran on 36th anniversary of Black January

Presidency's Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran, in a post on his NSosyal account on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of Black January, emphasised the Azerbaijani people's struggle for freedom and independence, commemorating the martyrs of Black January with reverence and honouring the veterans with gratitude.

In his post, Head of Communications Duran noted:

"Black January, which took place in Baku on the night of 20 January 1990, is one of the symbols of the Azerbaijani people’s honourable struggle for freedom and independence.

The Soviet army’s attack against innocent civilians has been etched in memory as one of the most painful chapters in our history. However, on that dark night, the Azerbaijani people demonstrated to the entire world that they would not submit to oppression and would never relinquish their will for independence.

Today, on the 36th anniversary of Black January, as Türkiye, we wholeheartedly share both the pain and the pride of brotherly Azerbaijan, in line with the principle of “two states, one nation." We commemorate our brothers and sisters martyred during Black January with reverence and honour our veterans with gratitude.
